I bought a house! :-O
australia, ocean
Since most of you probably don't know, I've recently started looking at purchasing a home. I'm quite fussy, since I can't stand condos or homeowners associations telling me what to do, and I really, really wanted a yard to landscape, plus I want a neighborhood I can feel safe living in alone, which nixes several areas in the South Bay Area...but my 3rd offer was accepted today, so I will soon be the new owner of a single-family home in Santa Clara! :D

My most recent search started about a month ago, and this is the 2nd house I offered on, but the first buyer fell through so they came back to me this week when it went back on the market. I like the floor plan even though the rooms are quite small (1166 square feet living area), but it is 3 bedroom, 2 baths, kitchen/eating area including dishwasher & fridge, laundry area in the 2 car garage, and a quite decent-sized yard for the Bay Area - hooray! I can't say that the exterior style is my favorite, since it looks like The Incredibles live there (heh!), but the inside exposed ceiling beams have lots of "castle-theme" potential! ;) I wanted a house that needed some work since I want to make it my own anyway...the sad screened patio will need to go! Plus the dining area off the living room by the fireplace could fit a baby grand piano eventually...if I can ever afford one now that my housing payment will eat up most of my monthly income! ;) It needs termite work including fumigation (standard in most houses of this vintage in the Bay Area), updated wiring, cracks in the brick chimney repaired, and the foundation releveled in the master bedroom, which I want to do before I move in, which will most likely be over the holidays. Needless to say, due to my newly-limited disposable income I think all Britta-parties from now on will probably have to be potluck, at least for quite awhile! ;)

Woot! Congratulations! I look forward to seeing "Castle Britta", or whatever clever name you may craft for your private estatelet. Though I haven't named my estatelet, either, and I've been going on 6 years. Hmmm, perhaps I must fix that. How will your commute be?

Commute shouldn't be too bad, since this is off the same exit my old apt was, but since I've lived 5 exits north since my office has been in our current location, I haven't driven down that way in morning rush hour since the economy picked up these past few years...

Heehee...Castle Britta might be it! Well I can get away with Castle Modern decor on the inside I hope, but I think I have to be careful about resale value plus the outside is SO not castle that the discrepancy from outside to inside could be quite jarring... ;)

Hurrah! Owning your own place is an awesome thing. Welcome to the ranks of mortgage-shackled populace! Heheh! I'm sure you'll be able to do so much more for your gatherings now...sweet. :) Congrats!

Again, congrats Britta! I'm soooooooo happy for you. I'm sure you'll be able to do a lot with this place!

Congrats!!!!! I'm so excited for you :D

I'm here in NY--the Leaky gang says hi and congrats.

Fabulous news, Britta!! Couldn't be happier for you! I'll be glad to bring eggrolls for the next couple of years to your parties!

Re: Congratulations!!

Uh oh, the eggrolls have found me! Run away, run away!

that's excellent! can't wait to see the photos! :-) congratulations!!

What great news, I'm so excited for you! Congratulations!

Castle Britta is probably best

Dipping into an online Swedish/English dictionary I see your ancestral options are Borg Britta or Slott Britta.

Probably more Trek fans than Swedish speakers out there....

Either way, congrats (again)!
